The Nutcracker

Holly has proven time and time again what an amazingly skilled dancer she is. It was so exciting to hear her share about her night performing in the Nutcracker with the Imperial Russian Ballet Company. We are so proud of you Holly!!

In preparation for our Pae Ake Science Day in Week 6, we kicked off the Explore section of our Science Inquiry learning with a session on acids and bases. Excitement levels were high as they learned to form a hypothesis and conducted their first fair test!

Check out some of the Wonderings the class came up with after they were done experimenting. I predict we might have some future scientists in LC11.

Adopt a Turbo

Today Turbos player Heiden Bidwell-Curtis came to visit us and talk to about some of the challenges that he faces and how he overcomes them. He talked about setting goals and how these worked to keep him motivated. He said that he has his goals written down and put up in his house so that he can see them everyday. We then challenged him to step outside of his comfort zone and play a game of hockey with the Pae Ake team. It was so much fun and great training for our Pae Ake Olympics Day!!

Next it was poster signing time!!! We were all pretty impressed with how quickly he could sign 100 posters so that we all got our own to take home!! Thanks for the visit Heiden. Hopefully a few of us can get out to see him playing in their home game this weekend.

Our Olympians

Micah's uncle has been over in Rio for the Olympics working as a physio for some of our Olympians. He has been sending us some fantastic photos to help motivate us in our Inquiry learning! See if you can challenge yourself to name any of these Olympians.

Sportsmanship Challenges

Thursday's sportsmanship focus was on respect - especially when the ref makes a call that we might not agree with!! Congratulations to Brayden, Malakai and Lily who stood out as being extremely respectful during our soccer session.

Welcome To LC11 Mr Thurlow

Hi there,
My name is Johnny Thurlow, and I am currently helping out in LC11.  Presently, I am studying at Massey University doing my Post Graduate Diploma in Primary School Education, and loving every minute of it.
I will be here for the next 5 weeks, and I am really enjoying getting to know all the teachers, and lots of the students.  I would also love to meet some of the families of the children too, so if I haven’t met you already, feel free to come up and say “Hello”.

Waitoetoe Tree Planting

What a fantastic way to wrap up our Environmental Education Term with a trip down to Waitoetoe park to plant some new trees. The Friends of Waitoetoe Park provided us with 200 trees to plant and a giant pile of mulch to keep them protected. I look forward to seeing the impact that this day will have on the park in years to come. Thanks Mrs Marychurch for arranging this opportunity for us all!

Japanese Celebration

Check out these photos from our end of term Japanese celebration. It was great to see all the smiling faces as the children learned new skills and stepped outside their comfort zone. A big thank you to Yume who planned and delivered some amazing Japanese language lessons for our children this term!
